How to Check Your PC Specs on Windows

Updated 2026-10-04

Every hardware calculator starts with the same question: what is in your PC? Windows already has everything you need.

Task Manager

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc and open the Performance tab. Select CPU for the model, core and thread counts. Select Memory for capacity, speed and slot usage. Select GPU for the graphics card and its dedicated memory. Select each disk to see whether it is an SSD or a hard drive.

DirectX Diagnostic Tool

Press Win+R, type dxdiag and press Enter. The System tab lists the processor and memory. The Display tab lists the graphics card, driver version and video memory.

System Information

Press Win+R, type msinfo32 and press Enter. Look for BaseBoard Manufacturer and BaseBoard Product to find your motherboard model. You need it to check which CPUs it supports.

Your power supply

Software cannot read a PSU. Open the side panel and read the label on the unit for its wattage and model name. You can also check the original box or order history.

Memory type and speed

Task Manager shows whether you have DDR4 or DDR5 and the current speed. If the speed is lower than the memory is rated for, XMP or EXPO may be switched off in the BIOS.

Once you have your parts, run them through the PC Upgrade Checker or the PC Bottleneck Calculator.
